St. Bonaventure University reviews all applications on a rolling basis. To ensure a thorough review, your application should be received by the Office of Graduate Admissions at least 20 days prior to the desired start date.

Transcript requests

An official copy of your academic record from every college you have attended must be forwarded to the SBU Office of Graduate Admissions. This includes transcripts from any colleges that awarded you credit for classes you took through them while still in high school.

As it can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks for transcripts to be received, you should submit requests to your colleges early in the graduate school application process. These transcripts must be received directly from the school (that is, official copies).

At times, a provisional admission may be offered based on unofficial or student copies of transcripts. This type of admission is contingent upon the receipt of official records by a specified date.

To handle your transcript request, your college(s) will need some information from you (for example, the dates of your enrollment), probably a signature, and often a fee. Many schools still employ a pen and paper request process. Using the transcript release form (linked above) may help to expedite the processing of your records. Complete a transcript release form for each college you have attended and send the form to that school with the required fee. 

SBU undergrads and graduates do not have to complete a transcript request form. Your signature on the application form grants permission for the university registrar to release this information to the Office of Graduate Admission.

The Office of Graduate Admissions will provide applicants with notification of the committee's decision. Admitted students will receive information regarding course selection and related matters, along with a form to return to SBU to confirm enrollment (which is needed for course registration).

Admitted students can confirm their enrollment by returning the Enrollment Notification Form located on their Student Status page, or by emailing Graduate Admissions at gradsch@sbu.edu.

Students who do not confirm their enrollment will not be able to register for classes. Students may elect to defer enrollment by notifying the Office of Graduate Admissions.

Non-matriculated graduate students

Students wanting academic credit but not pursuing a degree or certificate will experience an abbreviated application process. Typically, these students fall into three categories:

• those who wish to transfer St. Bonaventure credit back to a program at another institution
• students who are not regularly admissible to SBU who wish to demonstrate the aptitude for graduate study
• those wanting to take a course to enhance professional training or to pursue a work-related credential.
  

Students can import up to nine credit hours earned under this status into a St. Bonaventure master’s degree or certificate program. Approval for non-matriculating or audit enrollment is course-specific. Please apply for admission at least three weeks prior to the start of class.

The application process for non-matriculating students

The following is required:

• Apply for admission online;
  
• When you get to the portal select "create a Graduate Application." Do NOT select the item shown as "create a non-degree student application." That is for a specialized interdisciplinary undergraduate summer program;
  
• On the graduate study application select "Non-matriculating Student" from the drop-down menu on the Academic Degree item;
  
• Request official transcripts for SBU from all colleges previously attended (graduate and undergraduate);
  
• Information as may be requested by the program director.

Auditing students

Students taking classes on an audit basis will not receive academic credit, though an SBU transcript will show that the student took the class. The admission process for auditors requires:

• Apply for admission online. When you get to the portal select “create a Non-Degree Seeking application.” Do NOT select to “create a Graduate application;"
  
• Course-specific permission of the dean of the School of Graduate Studies;
  
• Verification of having earned a bachelor's degree.

Non-matriculated and auditing students are required to provide proof of immunity.

St. Bonaventure University encourages local senior citizens to take advantage of its academic offerings. Accordingly, senior citizens are invited to enroll in undergraduate and graduate courses with the permission of the instructor and as space allows. The privilege is extended to those 60 years old or older.

Cost to Attend

Audit

• (no grade or credit received;
  
• Senior citizens may audit courses, with the permission of the instructor, for $100 per course.
  

Credit-bearing Course

• For any course taken for credit, senior citizens will be required to pay $220 per credit hour. 
• These fees are subject to change.
